Gum recession is a common periodontal problem that causes both aesthetic concerns and tooth sensitivity by exposing the root surfaces of the teeth. To correct this condition and achieve healthy gums and an aesthetic smile, two effective methods are used in modern dentistry: soft tissue graft and tunnel technique (coronally advanced flap).
A soft tissue graft is the procedure of covering the missing gum tissue in the area of gum recession with tissue taken from the patient's own mouth or supported with biological materials.
The tunnel technique stands out as a minimally invasive method in the treatment of gum recession. In this technique, small incisions are made between the gums and the gum tissue is advanced coronally (i.e. towards the top of the tooth).
